荣誉学位

The Committee will request honorary degree nominations from individuals or groups usually by June 1.   董事会成员, 学生, 教师, 管理员, 院长, 校友, 公众人士亦可提名个人获颁授荣誉学位.  Although nominations of candidates for honorary degrees are received throughout the year by the Office of the Provost, 收到的 9月29日 will be considered for honorary degrees awarded at 毕业典礼 the following May or at another suitable University occasion.  Nominations must be accompanied by a clear statement of the reason for awarding the honor.  All nominations and the deliberation process will be conducted with complete confidentiality.  不让被提名人知道他或她的提名是至关重要的.  Persons nominated for the honorary degree should not be notified at any time during the process.  提名将在教务长办公室收到.

Recommendations are then considered by the 校董会’ Committee for 学术 and Student Engagement and then by the full Board.  Only following action by the 校董会 are invitations issued to persons on whom such degrees might be conferred.

正常情况下, no more than two honorary degrees may be awarded in any academic year at commencements, 会的, 或其他适当的大学职能. 大学可以选择在一个学年不授予荣誉学位.

应注意以下几点.

• A degree may be awarded posthumously if a recipient dies after notification of selection but before the ceremony.
• The University never pays a speaking fee to a person receiving an honorary degree (although the University may cover expenses).
• The University should limit the number of nominations to those who would be certain to enhance the prestige of the University.  除非在特殊情况下, 大学不应提交超过三人的提名以供批准, 每学年不得授予超过两名奖学金.
